Renee Oluwaseun Chukwuemeka (Renee Chuks) was born in Lagos. She grew up as the only child of her mum and was introduced to cooking from age 8, when she was the last in the assembly line for Saturday moin-moin breakfast alongside her Grandma and her Mum.

A career in television led her back into the world of food, where she worked on cooking shows that took her behind the scenes of some of the largest hotels and restaurants in Lagos at the time. The clear absence of Nigerian chefs in top level positions and the lack of female chefs in the kitchen at that time, spurred her to consider a career In culinary arts.

Chef Renee Chuks graduated from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Austin Texas in 2011.

She came back to Nigeria starting her career at the Protea Hotel, Gra ikeja. and then to Victoria crown plaza hotel, Victoria island where she worked with Chef Abdallah, who was a major influence in her career.

She has accrued over 7 years working experience in an executive chef capacity for Trasco Group, owners of Browns Café, la casa and the ilase beach resort, Carlito’s grill & lounge and appearing on top culinary shows, as well as headlining food festivals for top food brands, consulting for hotels and restaurants starting up or in need of new path.

After careful research, she realized that lack of proper culinary education was the major challenge for Nigerians in the industry, Hence the Umami Centre for Culinary Arts (UCCALagos) was conceived.

There is a saying that if you want to change the narrative, first you must join the conversation. Chef Renee understands the need for a good culinary education. She has learnt and is constantly upgrading herself, but she is now changing the narrative with the UCCA Lagos and the crop of students she is graduating. Equipping them with knowledge and skills that puts them at par with other culinarians across the world.
Renee Chuks and her Team consult for Hotels and Restaurants across the Country,Taking the global standard,safety and hygiene training to the organizations in need of them.
