BANKE MESHIDA LAWAL: PROFILE

Banke Meshida Lawal is a leading and professional make-up artist as well as the CEO of BMPROMAKEUP group, a business which not only includes the provision of professional make-up services but as well as a foremost cosmetic make-up line which caters to black women all over the world, a training school, a beauty advisory and an online magazine.

Banke Meshida Lawal’s foray into the world of make-up and colours started off with a keen interest in fine art when she was eight years old. An interest which led to her taking fine art lessons in school.

As a student of English at the University of Lagos, the art of make-up application became a hobby for her. The make-up results were so brilliantly done that friends and strangers would request for her to help them apply theirs as well – requests that she graciously accepted and did at absolutely no cost.

After graduating with a 2nd Class Honors from the University in the year 2000, Banke decided to turn her skill and hobby into a proper business. A decision that would lead to the birth of BMPro which started with offering professional make-up services and make-overs to clients who inarguably were very satisfied with their results and helped stamp her name as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s now thriving beauty/ make-up industry.

In 2002, the first BMPro Make-Up Studio was formally opened on Rumens Road in highbrow Ikoyi, Lagos and has gone on to cater to a wider clientele which includes Supermodels, high profile socialites, First ladies and Billionaire wives in the country.

Today, BMPro boasts of catering to a diverse range of clientele which includes:

Runway Shows: MBGN, Miss Nigeria, Tiffany Amber, House of Marie, Odio Mimonet

Editorial cover pages for fashion magazines: This Day Newspaper, Elan Magazine, Genevieve Magazine, The Sun Newspaper, City People Magazine, Vanguard Newspaper, Punch Newspaper, Wow Magazine.

Her expertise has also won her numerous awards to name a few: Make-Up Artist of The Year (City People Awards 2005) Make-up Brand of The Year (ELOY Awards 2009) Make-up Artist of The Year (FAB Awards 2010) Best Make-up Artist (The Nigerian Event Awards 2012) APPOEMN (Makeup Brand of the Year (2017)

In 2005, BMPro expanded its business with its foray into the cosmetics industry. The make-up line, BMPro Make-up was born, starting out with 14 products in its line. This move was well received by Nigerian women who saw it as a welcome relief from having to deal with the problem of getting the right make-up shade for women of colour especially with the leading make-up brands having products better suited for Caucasian skin tones. Today, BMPro Make-up is one of the leading indigenous make-up brands in the country and boasts of a wide range of products to cater to every beauty need. Constantly launching products for the Makeup lovers, both Professionals and amateurs, the BMPRO brand is one to love.

Banke Meshida Lawal is also involved in youth empowerment as she believes in giving the youth the opportunity for job creation and sustenance. This she has done through the establishment of her training school from where each year, hundreds of young make-up artists graduate and go on to make a career for themselves in Nigeria’s beauty industry.

Banke Meshida Lawal as a trailblazer with a Focus on the Artistry of Makeup cannot be disputed and she continues to be a force to reckon with in the Nigerian beauty industry. BMPRO continues to raise the bar with the quality of their Makeup , thus inspiring Artists on the Nigerian and African scene to strive for perfection. Her contribution to the industry is highly celebrated and in 2015, she was appointed as the Governor of the Make-Up Artists Guild of Nigeria (MAGN)
