Improv Your Work Life
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Every day we make things up as we go along.

What am I having for breakfast? How am I responding to the angry man in the bank? What shall I say in this meeting? Just being, never mind being the best you can be, can be a little daunting.

What if there were some tools that could make it all a bit easier? What if there were skills you could acquire to tackle the everyday in new and exciting ways?

Improv Your Work Life is for anyone who finds themselves leaving meetings going "Who was that? Why did I behave like that?" For anyone who panics at the thought of conversation and small talk at networking events. For anyone who needs a bit more confidence when it comes to public speaking and assertiveness in the workplace

WHY IT MATTERS
Sometimes we only get one chance at a meeting, at a conversation or an interview and we muck it up because we are too far in our own heads to bring our best selves forward.

HOW IT WORKS
We'll be using improvisation techniques and exercises to create better connections, be more present and to discover short cuts to our 'best self'.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
  • How to connect with people in conversation
  • How to create conversational content
  • How to be your best self on command
  • How to notice all the offers your colleagues are giving you
  • Delivering spontaneous content confidently
  • How to cope when meetings go off piste

Things Fall Apart: Can Traditional African Storytelling Save Content Marketing?
Limited Capacity filling up

Story Story Once upon a time when you heard that phrase, you knew a remarkable story was about to leave you covered in goosebumps. The times may have changed rapidly but something about stories and how they have been told needs to be re-lived, even now that these tales are no longer told by moonlight.

The digital space is more saturated than ever; everything is calling for our attention. With a library worth of content to scroll through daily, We don't have 30 seconds to be interrupted but will give 30 minutes to hear a great story. So the Big Questions: What ingredients make a great story? What is it about a story that makes your audience itch for more and be more than willing to share it?

Why are our content marketing efforts not pulling in the weight, why are our stories not sticking? Maybe we ve been doing it all wrong, maybe we need to go back to our old stories and have a rethink.

In this talk we will explore what content marketing can borrow from traditional African storytelling to build brands that stick!

We ll look at the approaches of the most successful story-led campaigns, books, movies, and the fundamental principles of what works to engage an audience. We will also look at the role of storytellers as gatekeepers and How digital storytellers can chronicle lifestyle and culture as it evolves as well as create rich digital experiences that supports rather than disrupts.

You ll leave inspired to reboot your content strategy and be armed with the how of storytelling for creating the remarkable brands of the future that captures and holds the attention of digital natives.

Inclusion For All: Making Financial Inclusion A Reality For Nigeria
According to the World Bank, Financial Inclusion is "the ability of individuals and businesses to access useful and affordable financial products and services that meet their needs transactions, payments, savings, credit and insurance delivered in a responsible and sustainable way".   Financial Inclusion also refers to citizens access to financial services in such a manner that enables every adult citizen to realize his/her full potential and life aspirations. Growing financial inclusion as a means of lifting citizens out of poverty, improving citizens quality of life and enhancing the capacity of citizens to contribute meaningfully to national development. In Nigeria, only 41 % of Nigerians had bank accounts in 2017, a decline from 44 percent in 2014, according to the World Bank. With 2018 starting out with stagnant financial inclusion numbers in June of 2018 the Central Bank of Nigeria announced a National Financial Inclusion strategy review in order to stay on track for the 2020 80% financial inclusion goal. The reviewed strategy puts forward a draft of suggestions on the best model to help drive financial inclusion in the country. Others have said the country is a peculiar one and as such, it needs a tailor-made strategy, as compared to the mobile money model that has spurred financial inclusion growth around the world. Meanwhile, in furtherance of its mandate to promoting a sound financial system in Nigeria and the need to enhance access to financial services for the unbanked rural segments of society, Nigeria 's Central  Bank recently proposed Payment Service Banks (PSB) aimed at helping to achieve the set 80 percent financial inclusion rate by 2020.

Inclusion for all is the only way to achieve economic prosperity for Nigeria. Every Nigerian is needed to improve the quality of life for all. Inclusion For All: Making Financial Inclusion a reality for Nigeria is a panel by BusinessDay Media Limited, which aims to shed light on financial inclusion issues and opportunities to speak to uncover the bottlenecks that are currently being faced and realistically pan out how to achieve the 2020 80 % financial inclusion goal. This session will bring together Nigeria's most influential public figures and financial inclusion experts to move the needle forward in 2019.

Thought Leadership & The Changing Rules Of Content Marketing
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Thought leadership used to be really great. Thought leaders offered informed opinions and proprietary knowledge in their field of expertise. Whatever they told us was gospel, until marketers and motivational speakers invaded their hallowed space, placing us in the middle of a believability crisis.

Today, marketing content are masked as thought leadership pieces, but they are not difficult to detect and might lead to the loss of potential customers who detest such trickery. To the marketers, it s just smart content marketing. Isn t that the latest hype in town?

However, thought leadership is still a whitespace and can still be very valuable in marketing and brand positioning if done right. Interestingly, you don t have to be big to win with thought leadership. Thought-led Content marketing can still help your organization achieve growth targets, but you have to do it right.

A FEW FACTS TO NOTE

Three out of five global executives sometimes feel confused or overwhelmed by the volume of content they encounter, with more than half noting that intrusiveness has increased.

Both executives and marketers agree that, on average, only a quarter of all the thought leadership content seen every day is engaged with, leaving much to go to waste.

After consuming compelling thought leadership, seven in ten share it via email and consume more from that same source; 76% are influenced in their purchasing decisions, 67% would be willing to advocate for that brand; and 83% are influenced in the choice of potential business partner.

More than 60% of marketers strongly agree or somewhat agree that internal alignment is a barrier to creating effective thought leadership.

Thought Leadership & The Changing Rules Of Content Marketing will examine:
- What thought leadership is and isn t
- The nexus between thought leadership and content marketing
- What drives thought leadership content consumption?
- The best ways to present and distribute thought leadership content - Value marketing
- Generating inbound leads through thought leadership
-Innovative distribution of thought leadership content

Participants should have a background in marketing, PR, Brand management, Corporate Communications or Advertising

Agritech For Profit In Emerging Markets
Limited Capacity seats available

Emerging Technology is disrupting the way agriculture is being practiced in Africa. Innovative technologies like blockchain, drones and soilless technologies are promoting inclusivity and increased profit for youths and city dwellers. As climate change continues to reduce crop productivity, it is important to explore technologies that are climate smart.

Agritech for profit in Emerging Markets is an intimate talk that will draw on the knowledge and experience of industry experts locally and internationally who will not only educate participants on effective strategies of tech use in agriculture but will expose opportunities, networks and organizations to help put this knowledge to good use.

Participants will learn from experts:
  • how the use of tech in Agriculture can proffer a sustainable solution to youth unemployment in Nigeria and how they can use it to create wealth.
  • how aggregators, commodity traders and smallholder farmers can earn more profits trading their commodities on a blockchain base exchange.
  • how city dwellers can grow fresh foods (Tomatoes, vegetables) with little use of water, space and resources for good health and extra income.
  • how key actors involved in crop production can use drones as a cost-effective and real-time innovative way of acquiring data to guide farmers decisions for productivity and increased returns on investment.

Disrupting For Inclusion – Changing The Game Of Money In Africa
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Nigeria is one of the fastest growing economies in the world with about 40 million micro, small and medium-sized businesses across the country, contributing to about 48% of the country s GDP.

It is surprising, however, that Nigeria remains one of the most underbanked countries in the world. As at June 2018, about 37% of Nigeria s adult population (ca. 50m people) had no access to financial services or credit, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The fin-tech sector in Nigeria is fast growing and the opportunities are endless with the potential to redefine the financial landscape in years to come.

Join this session to learn how players in the fin-tech space are leveraging technology and innovation to drive financial inclusion across Africa.

The Digital Woman: Creating Aware, Safe, & Empowered Citizens
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

2018 can easily be named the year of The Woman . Across the world, both social and traditional media buzzed with several incidents breaking down gender stereotypes and cultures as well as women finding their voices. In 2017, hashtags like #Metoo birthed a new dimension in advocacy that women are replicating across matters that concern them, and state and non-state actors are increasingly demonstrating an understanding of creating spaces for equity.
The question is, how do we prepare women to lead in this rapidly-changing world? How do we strengthen their voices and actualise their aspirations?

With technology as its central theme, our potpourri style event walks through the deployment of technology in the business, advocacy, and politics. We invite women at all stages of their careers (students, entrepreneurs, employees or employers of labour) to join us for a truly enlightening, no-holds-barred conversation.

Are you a woman? A business owner or thinking about starting a business? Are you in search of a community of support for all things technological? DO you need to build skills around digital marketing in its entirety? Interested in making new friends? This class is for you!

Attendees will:
  1. Gain a rounded understanding of how technology can be deployed across politics, advocacy, security, and business in 2019.
  2. Provide a live training session for integrating several digital marketing techniques.
  3.  Explore storytelling via successful practitioners and its importance in amplifying advocacy concerns.
  4.  Build new networks, access fabulous merchandise, and win fantastic gifts .

Tales From The Field: Sharing Our Side Hustle Experiences
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

It is now the norm for people to have a side hustle whilst holding a full time job. The reason for this ranges from the need to supplement ones income either to meet basic needs or fund a desired lifestyle, or even as an opportunity to find expression for interests and hobbies with a view to making additional income. Side hustlers often find out that the challenges they face are somewhat different from those that full time entrepreneurs face and they wonder how to surmount the challenges.

"Tales From The Field: Sharing Our Side Hustle Experiences" will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn all about the side hustle life from people who have started various side hustles and are already earning income from them. This event is targeted at employees who have side hustles, employees who have ideas/ hobbies/ interests they would like to profit from, and also people who have absolutely no idea about starting a side hustle but would love to start one.

Overall, attendees interacting with each other will find out that the journey towards building a side hustle can be made smoother by identifying the community of people who they can turn to when they need support and ultimately learn to share their own stories to encourage other people.

  • Juggle various responsibilities whilst managing a side hustle
  • Use social media and the internet to enhance their side hustles
  • Develop the skills required in managing side hustles
  • Identify pitfalls and challenges that come with side hustling and strategies to adopt in surmounting them
