Stories are important in driving the vehicle of social change. Throughout history, stories relating to human rights abuses, government policies, and social justice have all helped to push forward progress around the world.
Mandela Washington Fellows are a crop of young people who are working to influence their communities and countries through stories and action. Some Fellows have illuminated the plight of disadvantage kids in slum communities, others have demonstrated how simple things like art can be used to influence a group of young people to promote change.
A Thousand Lives: How Stories Influence Social Change panelist will present the inspiring impact of the work they have done in order to bring change to their community using different storytelling techniques.
Participants will learn- the art of using visual, kinesthetic, and auditory methods to tell compelling stories about the work they do in their communities.how stories can be used to drive social change
- how stories are interwoven and how best to frame isolated ideas into a big picture story.
- how to use stories to apply for grants and funding
- how to use stories to show growth and impact
The Mandela Washington Fellowship and the YALI Network in Nigeria work to develop and promote young leaders who look within their communities and find specific areas in which they can serve to bring change to such communities.
